"My soul found ease and rest in the companionship of books."

                                                       – Pat Conroy

Who are the Friends?

Founded in 1978, the Friends of the Beaufort Library is a community of volunteers dedicated to supporting the work and supplementing the resources of all Beaufort County Library branches north of the Broad River.   Folks can buy books at low prices in our Bookstores, located in the Scott St. and St. Helena branches.  We host the annual Book Sale, generating much of the revenue needed to support the community, and Books Sandwiched In, a free-to-the community book discussion with well known civic leaders.

Over the years, we've provided early learning books to Born to Read, a local non-profit that brings literary materials and age appropriate books to new parents.  We've also funded internet hot spots, providing connectivity to the community.

Over the past year, the Friends of the Beaufort Library provided $41,000 to support programs at the Northern Beaufort County libraries.
